F.A.Q’s

RESIDENTIAL

How do I know when it is time to repaint my home?

Some homeowners repaint their homes after purchasing them to change the colour, while others do so before selling to boost curb appeal.

Typically, a house should be repainted every 5-10 years, or every 4-7 years if it’s stained. Homes near the coast may need more frequent painting due to salt air exposure. The lifespan of your current paint job depends on factors like the quality of the prep work (sanding, scraping) and the paint used.

Paint exposed to direct sunlight can become chalky or fade, and low-quality paint may show uneven colours depending on sun exposure. Render, in particular, should be repainted every 5-7 years to prevent cracking or falling off. Many people establish a routine of repainting their homes every 5-7 years, much like regular car maintenance, to prevent potential damage before it starts.

How many coats of paint are included in the quote

We apply three coats to all new surfaces and two coats to existing ones. If a project requires a different number of coats, we’ll discuss it with you before we begin.

What are the ideal weather conditions for exterior painting?
  • Temperature: The temperature should ideally be between 10°C to 30°C. Extreme heat or cold can affect the paint’s application and drying process.

  • Humidity: Low to moderate humidity levels are best. High humidity can cause paint to dry too slowly and potentially lead to issues like mold growth.

  • Dry Conditions: It’s important to paint when there’s no rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours to ensure the paint can dry and cure properly.

  • Wind: Light to moderate wind is acceptable, but strong winds can cause paint to dry too quickly or lead to overspray and dust issues.

  • Sunlight: Ideally, the painting should be done in the shade or during cooler parts of the day to prevent the paint from drying too fast and not adhering properly.

If I buy all of my own materials, will I be able to save money that way?

Purchasing your own paint or materials won’t save you money. As a painting business, we receive significant discounts on these items and pass those savings on to you in our quote.

How long will the paint job last for?

The length of our work depends on several factors:

1. Location: Whether you’re near the ocean or in a high-humidity area.
2. Surface Material: The type of material being painted.
3. Project Type: Whether the project involves new or existing surfaces.
4. Previous Paint Job: The quality of the existing paint if it’s a repaint.
5. Preparation: The extent of surface preparation done before painting. Some clients opt to handle preparation themselves to save money, while others prefer us to ensure a superior, long-lasting finish. We always take the time to prepare surfaces properly unless directed otherwise.

How long will the job take?

The timeline depends on several factors, including the size of the project, weather conditions, the decorative materials being used (such as wallpaper, render, or textured paints), and the number of painters assigned to your project.

What should I do in order to get ready for the painters?

Here’s how to prepare your home or office for painting:

Interior Projects:
Please remove all valuables, small decorative items, and artwork from the walls. Arrange for pets to be kept away from the painting area. We will handle moving furniture as needed.

Exterior Projects:
Ensure we have clear access to the areas that need painting. Trim any bushes or trees that could obstruct our work. Remove any items from exterior walls that you do not want painted. We will take care of the rest.

Can I match my current paint colour?

Absolutely! We can take a small sample of the current paint, such as a chip, and match it. Paint companies use colour matching machines to ensure you get the exact shade you want.

Can I leave my home while your painting crew works?

Yes, our crew can handle the preparation and painting of your property while you’re at work or on vacation. Many of our clients prefer to be away during the process. At Sam Simon Painters,  we do not use subcontractors. Most of our painters have been with us for years, contributing to our low turnover rate. You can trust that we know and rely on our employees, and you can too.

Do you provide touch-up paint after you are finished?

Yes, we will leave any leftover paint from the project for future touch-ups. If you notice any small areas needing extra attention, we’re more than happy to return and address them. At Sam Simon Painters, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and the care we put into every project.

What's the difference between painting myself and hiring a professional painter?

There are several benefits to hiring a professional to paint your home, office, or factory. Here are three key reasons to choose a professional painter:

  1. Time Efficiency: As experts in painting, we can complete your project much faster than you could on your own.
  2. Less Mess and Clean up: Professional painters ensure proper preparation and thorough clean up, minimizing mess and hassle.
  3. High-Quality Results: With Sam Simon Painters, you can expect a finished product of the highest standard.

COMMERCIAL

What type of paint do your use and why?

We mainly use top-quality products from Haymes, Dulux, Porters, and Taubmans. If you have a preference for another brand, we’re happy to accommodate your choice.

Why should I paint my commercial property?

Painting your commercial property is an effective way to make a strong impression on clients. Just like with real estate, a fresh coat of paint enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. A new exterior paint job is a smart investment that can help draw people in.
